Windows’ "ALT key codes" Linux equivalent

To produce any character in Linux the same way you do it in Windows with ALT key codes, press SHIFT-CTRL-U, then hold SHIFT-CTRL and enter a two characters Unicode code. For example, to produce an é, you’ll enter E9.
